1. Profile
Iris
Garrelfs is best known for her emotive,
improvised glitch-tech performances based around electronically manipulated
and digitally warped voice sounds as well as site specific, multi-channel installations.
The central theme of her work is the tension of the human and technology. Her
recent album Specified Encounters has been released on the French label BipHop
(see press quotes below).
Now in it's 10th year, Iris is one of the founding directors of Sprawl,
advocating electronic and digital sound. She also the board secretary of the
Sonic Arts Network, an experienced workshop leader and currently co-hosts a
radio shows on London's soundart station Resonance FM.

2002 to date: Field 61: Director and cofounder of this non-commercial
venture promoting live digital music. Curated and organised events with Jem
Finer, Matt Rogalsky and others. Currently broadcasting 1st Friday of every
month on Resonance FM 104.4. With Kaffe Matthews
1996 to date: Sprawl: Director and cofounder. This monthly London based
event has become a benchmark of experimental, electronic music. Artists featured
have included Kim Cascone, Scanner, Talvin Singh, Kaffe Matthews, Christian
Fennesz, Hayley Newman and more. Other events include Groundswell Festival at
ICA, Presenting Vladislav Delay, co-curated concert organised in conjunction
with the Tate Moderns educational department and the Finnish Institute.
The label has instigated projects such as The Broken Voice (an exploration of
the human voice integrated into electronic music, with Scanner, Paul Thomas
and more), Chinese Whispers (an album exploring the further edges of the remix
idea, featuring Stereolab, Si Begg and others), and Hmm (versions of traditional
hymns and anthems reworked by global artists such as Carl Stone, Vladislav Delay,
